Har Ki Dun Trek

Har Ki Dun, the 'valley of the gods', is a cradle-shaped glacial valley watched over by the Swargarohini peaks, said in the Mahabharata to be the route the Pandavas took to heaven. It is a trek through living history as much as landscape: you pass some of the oldest inhabited villages in the Himalaya, with their carved wooden temples and 3,000-year-old way of life.

It is a moderate, multi-day classic over gentle river valleys and pine forest rather than steep snow. We base it out of Sankri and walk in via Taluka and the riverside hamlet of Osla.

Trip highlights

  • The ancient villages of Osla and Gangad and their wooden temples
  • A cradle valley framed by the Swargarohini wall
  • Easy-graded riverside walking through the Govind sanctuary

It runs in two windows: March to June for green valleys and clear views, and September to December for crisp air and early snow. Winter trips can see snow on the upper trail.

Moderate, mostly due to its length rather than steepness. The gradients are gentle and it is a good first multi-day trek for someone with reasonable fitness.

Reach Dehradun and we handle the rest, including the drive to Sankri and back.
